Pharmacy has been part of Colin Holyk’s life since he was five years of age, spending most of his days after school working at Holyk Drugs, his family pharmacy business in Westlock, AB. In 1982, his father purchased Kerrisdale Pharmacy and moved the family to Vancouver. Today, Colin also owns Hollyburn Pharmacy in West Vancouver. Music is his second passion, and he plays guitar in the live rock band Line 49.

In our pharmacies, our goal is to provide a complete and holistic level of care to our patients using forward-thinking, innovative treatment solutions. To achieve this goal, we have expanded beyond traditional pharmacy to areas such as custom medication compounding, holistic nutrition counselling, and homeopathic, organic and natural alternatives. Among our other innovative health and wellness solutions, we offer compression stocking fitting, wound care, and sports supports and braces. This year we have set up an e-commerce store with delivery options throughout Canada.
My vision for my pharmacies is to focus on 360 degrees of wellness for our patients, from a prescription filling service to providing many effective products that are organic, natural, or free from toxic additives, colours, or preservatives. Our clients are starting to take note of this and are increasingly asking for alternative treatment options.
In terms of how we keep our staff motivated and on track, I am a big proponent and supporter of educational development and continual learning for my staff as a way to keep them up-to-date, motivated and excited about their work. To achieve this, we host in-services on topics and products as well as sending our staff to conferences to upgrade skills and knowledge. Every one of our staff members feels more helpful and confident when they know more. They also often learn some helpful tips and tricks that they can bring back to the pharmacy to improve systems, work flow or patient care. All excellent additions to the business.
