We have entered a new era of pharmacy practice that only ten years ago seemed unreachable. Provinces across the country are coming to understand that the clinical expertise and patient care that pharmacists have to offer have been underutilized over the years. As a result, expanded patient service opportunities have been introduced, many of which are reimbursed by provincial health insurance plans. Given the potential for improved patient care and the need for financial compensation in the increasingly challenging fiscal environment, it is vital that pharmacists enthusiastically engage in new, expanded patient care services.
This lesson has been designed to help pharmacists integrate expanded services into daily practice through institution of systematic approaches to care known as the “therapeutic thought process” and the “patient care process.”
