A strategy of hope is not a strategy

Most typical “strategic plans” and “strategic planning sessions” that small business owners undertake are, in reality, nothing more than resource allocation plans or glorified budgets. Real strategic plans come through innovation, paradigm shifts or emergent industry development and, above all, asking the right questions. At the root of every failed strategy are a set of failed assumptions that proved to be false.  So, what is Strategy? What are the right questions that should be asked? Why do some good strategies fail? Why are these questions important to increasing the value of your business?

Capital allocation

Most investment strategies work if investors allocate capital to them at the right time.  However, if history is any guide, most investors allocate capital at precisely the wrong time for reasons we must be aware of.  Furthermore, in today’s volatile investment environment, investors should incorporate alternative investment classes into their investment strategies.
