This introductory session will provide an overview of the day’s agenda and introduce the key pharmacy business areas pharmacy owners will be reviewing throughout the day in order to drive the profitability and value of their pharmacies. Attendees will identify and implement key action items specific to the three stages of wealth creation experienced by pharmacy owners.
Pharmacy business considerations
All pharmacies enter into a variety of agreements as part of ongoing business. Owners need to be aware that all agreements signed create rights in your favour and obligations you must fulfill. We will enlighten pharmacy owners to fully understand the benefits and rights and the costs and obligations associated with signing contracts such as: Pharmacy Provider Agreements, Wholesale Supply Agreements, Banner Agreements and Commercial Leases.
A strategy of hope is not a strategy
Most typical “strategic plans” and “strategic planning sessions” that small business owners undertake are, in reality, nothing more than resource allocation plans or glorified budgets. Real strategic plans come through innovation, paradigm shifts or emergent industry development and, above all, asking the right questions. At the root of every failed strategy are a set of failed assumptions that proved to be false. So, what is Strategy? What are the right questions that should be asked? Why do some good strategies fail? Why are these questions important to increasing the value of your business?
Corporate structure & tax planning considerations
All pharmacy owners require the co-ordinated expertise of their accountant and lawyer. Owners need to be aware that establishing an effective pharmacy corporate structure requires careful consideration and planning. Attendees will be enlightened to better understand the benefits associated with a well- designed corporate organizational structure.
Valuation techniques for pharmacy business owners
Your host will discuss recent announcements affecting pharmacy business value, and how this is being interpreted by the market. Attendees will gain insight into how investors and buyers view and evaluate Canadian retail pharmacy business which will allow for improved exit strategy planning. The session will also explore various methods that can be employed to mitigate losses, increase profit, and reduce risk.
The strategic use of insurance
As a subject matter expert John will introduce the key areas of risk every pharmacy owner must be aware of and the strategies by which risk can be mitigated and managed.
Most investment strategies work if investors allocate capital to them at the right time. However, if history is any guide, most investors allocate capital at precisely the wrong time for reasons we must be aware of. Furthermore, in today’s volatile investment environment, investors should incorporate alternative investment classes into their investment strategies.
Financial planning and strategic investing for successful pharmacy business owners
This presentation will emphasize the importance of initiating a strategic wealth planning process and address the main reasons why pharmacy owners defer planning. The session will also delve into the key steps associated with structuring a strategic wealth plan that is integrated with personal, corporate and family estate goals and objectives.
